Miscreant Filler

Tuesday, October 12th, 2004

I wish it didn’t have to come to another filler, but that’s the best I can do right now…

This is sort of a preview of my regular art style. As fun as drawing things in a Wind Waker-esque fashion can be, it’s somewhat limiting as far as character designs go. Anyone I try to draw in the Wind Waker fashion ends up looking like Link. Kinda like my custom sprites, come to think of it… -_-;; So odds are future filler strips will look less like past ones and more like this. That means a few important things: Link will be taller than Pit, Bub won’t look retarded, and I’m gonna do drawn comics a hell of a lot more often. I’m not gonna stop spriting, but some of the action scenes I have in mind just aren’t as effectively portrayed in sprite form. Sprites are great for talking head-type comics (which there is no shortage of around here), but they absolutely blow for dynamic camera angles. We’ll see what happens, I suppose.

I plan to sit down today and try my damnedest to storyboard a few episodes before I go back to work tonight for Super Happy Fun Tech Meeting Time! Wish me luck on all accounts.

Samus and Peach walk into a bar…

We made it to Davis alive! No new Zelda Comic just yet, but I did make a belated submission to The Orange Belt Sprite Comic Contest. I figured it would be a good way to warm up by actually devoting a few neurons to the creative process, and I was right! I feel the creative juices flowing! Or at least trickling. Keep an eye on this site for a Monday update, we’ll see if one actually shows up or not.

Hourly Comics SaturDay

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

So there’s this guy named John Campbell, and last year he started the day of Hourly Comics, once a year on February 1st. The only annoying thing is, I had to work both last year and this year on that day! It’s not always easy to pull yourself away from troubleshooting kids’ computers or fixing old peoples’ iMacs so they can use Eudora again, so I missed out both times. Luckily, we came up with a solution: we’ve been holding our own hourly comic day today, and putting up our efforts on the forum. You can see the rest of my comics in the appropriate thread. It may even include me working on the next Zelda Comic, once I deem it the appropriate time to do so. I went to Target today! There were no turtles.

Fanart: Link Misérables

I promised myself I wasn’t going to post any filler art between comics, but when friend Bruce dropped this picture for me on the Twitters, I had to share (click to embarricadanate):

I feel so bad for little Bubroche.
